Dragon Army is the Battle School army commanded by Ender Wiggin, created from an untrained and underage group of soldiers, which under his innovative leadership becomes the most successful fighting force in the school's history, winning every battle and revolutionizing null-gravity tactics before being dismantled by the teachers.

Formation and Composition

Dragon Army was revived after a four-year hiatus, a name that had become a joke because no army bearing it had ever won even a third of its games. Ender was given command at the age of nine and a half, far younger than the usual eleven-year-old commanders, and was forbidden to trade any of his soldiers. The army was assembled by advancing an entire launch course early and delaying the graduation of advanced students, resulting in a mix of nearly thirty inexperienced Launchies, some pathetically small and underage, and veterans who had never been toon leaders and were older than Ender himself. None of the veterans belonged to Ender's elite practice group, and none had made a significant impression in their previous armies. Ender noted that his worst soldier could be a toon leader in another army, a testament to the raw potential the teachers had deliberately gathered.

Training and Tactical Innovations

Ender's training methods were unconventional and demanding. His tactics, such as the shield-pair maneuver against Salamander Army, where a frozen soldier was used as a shield for a shooter, and the use of a twine to change direction mid-flight, were so novel that other armies began imitating them. The army's success was so complete that all forty of its soldiers ranked in the top fifty on the individual standings, and Ender's name became synonymous with tactical genius. However, the teachers, determined to break him, scheduled battles with increasing unfairness, including two battles in one day and a final confrontation against two armies at once, which Ender won by ignoring the enemy and performing the victory ritual at their gate.

Dissolution and Legacy

Despite his victories, Ender grew weary of the game, declaring "The game is over" after the battle against Griffin and Tiger Armies. The teachers then dismantled his army, graduating half the commanders and transferring all his toon leaders and assistants to command other armies, including Bean, who was made commander of Rabbit Army. Ender himself was graduated and sent to Command School, leaving Dragon Army's legacy as a brief but brilliant chapter in Battle School history. The army's innovative tactics, such as the feet-first attack and the use of frozen soldiers as shields, were adopted by other armies, changing the way the game was played. Ender's command style, which combined harshness with individual patience, and his ability to inspire trust and loyalty, became a model for future commanders, even as his own career moved beyond the Battle Room to the real war against the buggers.
